Prominent square in the centre of London, within the City of Westminster, in WC2, near Charing Cross Station.
On its north side is the National Gallery (and National Portrait Gallery), to the east is St Martin-in-the-Fields church and to the west the Canadian Embassy.
Charing Cross Road runs to the north, Whitehall to the south, and the Strand to the east.
