Historical version 6 of Locale Rotherhithe (view current version)

A peninsular area of South-East London lying within the London Borough of Southwark.

Its southern part, around Surrey Quays Station and the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, may be referred to as Surrey Quays. It also has a slight overlap with Bermondsey to the west; some people think [Southwark Park]? is in Bermondsey, others think it's in Rotherhithe, and this uncertainty extends to the council estates along the northern part of Southwark Park Road.

The temporary closure of the East London Line means that crossing the river to the north is no longer particularly easy; the only current route is via the Rotherhithe Tunnel, which is unsuitable for both cyclists and pedestrians. The nearest non-car point of access to the north bank is now via Tower Bridge, some distance to the west. However, the area is still served by Canada Water Station on the Jubilee Line.
