HK Diner, W1D 6QJ
- 22 Wardour Street
Now closed; was a Chinese restaurant near Leicester Square, in Chinatown. As of April 2016 the windows are whitewashed over, but there's no indication of why it closed.
The information below is retained for historical purposes.
Wide menu, and decent value for money (portions are quite large). The salt and pepper tofu is particularly good, as is the sea-spiced aubergine; I gather the meat dishes are good as well. They'll happily cook off-menu dishes for you on request. Most veggie dishes are around £5.
You can't book, and it's popular, so you may have to wait a few minutes to get a table, but rarely more than five minutes. It's a good place for pre-theatre as they serve you fast (although don't hustle you out when you're finished if you do have more time available).
The bubble tea (fruit tea with semolina pearls in) is well worth trying, although it is quite odd! (Isn't it tapioca rather than semolina? --Kake) Wine, beer, green tea, and various soft drinks also available.
