Whitecross Tap, EC1Y 8QJ

Pub on Whitecross Street, previously known as the Trader photo. It was also previously a Smith & Jones pub (Bramwell Pub Company), but according to the August/September 2014 London Drinker, it was sold to the Stonegate Pub Company in November 2013. We haven't visited since the change of ownership, so some of the information below may be out of date.

It has a pool table and a very small beer garden, but there's also some picnic table type seating out on the street when the weather is good. It's fairly big inside, with plenty of standing room as well as seating. Large windows allow in plenty of light. The decor is modern, but not gastro photo.

It can get quite full on a weekday lunchtime, though when Kake visited at 2:30pm on a Monday in April 2009 there were only a few other customers. Beers available were Jennings Cumberland Ale and Sharps Cornish Coaster (£1.25/half). They also had Leffe and Becks Vier on tap. Music was playing, but not loudly, and a flatscreen was showing golf with the sound off.

They do food — see photo of the menu as of April 2009 — as well as specials such as salmon and pesto with mash (£6 as of April 2009).

bob and Dean visited a few times previously when they were working in the area, most recently in August 2007. The food was decent enough but the beer could be slightly disappointing at times.

secretlondon visited in July 2015 as it did food, unlike the Two Brewers. The food was £10+ for fancy burgers etc. I don't remember much else, sadly.

Accessibility: No step to get in, nor to get to the ladies', but it's quite a squeeze to get into the cubicles.
