Wetherspoons pub across the road from Wanstead Station, in the Good Beer Guide.
It's quite big, and quite fancy for a Wetherspoons; unlike most others in the chain, it was originally a pub rather than having been converted from a shop or something else. Stained glass and etched glass are here and there, and large windows let in plenty of sunlight. The interior is something of a maze, divided into several different spaces including a "library" area up on a dais. The bar itself is somewhat tucked away, and not immediately obvious upon entering. A mezzanine floor above offers more seating space.
Kake and friend visited on a Thursday morning in March 2017. There were quite a few people in when we arrived around 11:30am, but plenty of choice of seating. No music was playing, as is usual for Wetherspoons.
Eleven of the twelve handpumps were on, with a good range of styles from pale ale to stout, and including some from London breweries: Nethergate Rugby Ruck, Nethergate Old Growler, Strathaven Winter Glow, Weltons Old Harry, Weltons Wassail, Portobello Westway, ELB Nightwatchman, Nelson Loose Cannon, Sharp's Doom Bar, Abbot Ale, and Ruddles Best (all priced between £1.99 and £2.89 per pint). A pint of lime and soda was 80p.
Accessibility: The main entrance on Wanstead High Street has two large steps, but around the side is another entrance with just a very small step, no more than an inch or so. Once you're in, it's step-free to the bar, toilets (including an accessible one), and much of the seating.
