New Asian Tandoori Centre, UB2 4BQ

All-day Punjabi restaurant in Southall.

Entry is into a takeaway area with a display counter running along the wall, while further in are two dining spaces, one more casual style with lines of rectangular tables and the other more formal with large round tables and a small bar in the corner. Decor is subdued, with plain walls enlivened by large pieces of abstract art. The floor-to-ceiling windows are frosted to head-height, offering privacy while still letting in natural light.

Kake visited on a Monday morning in June 2019. I was the only customer when I arrived a little before 9am, but one other turned up while I was there. No music was playing.

Food in the mornings is limited to breakfast options, mainly various plain and stuffed parathas with simple accompaniments. I went for chole bhatura (£6) photo; chickpea curry (chole) served with deep-fried bread (bhatura).

The bhatura was rich but not overly greasy, thicker and softer around the edges and thinner and approaching crispiness in the centre. Chickpeas were in a nicely thick sauce, not chilli-hot, but enlivened with fresh coriander. On the side was a small dish containing an onion and mint chutney and some spicy carrot pickles; these were both very good, with plenty of flavour but no harsh vinegariness.

Service was fine, and a large jug of tap water was placed on the table without me having to ask.

Accessibility: No steps to get in, or to the accessible toilet (which has grab bars and a low sink but no alarm cord).
