Ministry Of Spice, SE13 7QS
- 23 Lewisham Road
Ministry of Spice was an Indian takeaway in Greenwich; it has now closed. As of August 2013 the premises have signage for a place called The Fusion photo.
The information below is retained for historical purposes.
(Oddly, there also appears to be another Indian takeaway called Massala at the same address, which is confusing.)
Kake and doop tried the delivery option on a Thursday evening in November 2008. Although we're quite a distance from them, the food came on time and arrived hot.
Mogul lamb chops (£2.75 for three) were fine, with decent spicing, though there was no crispy fat on them. Chingri laddoo ("spicy prawn balls", £3 for four) were a little more interesting; small prawns in a crispy gram flour batter with a hint of spicing, quite tasty, and the prawns weren't overcooked.
Moving on to mains, chicken jalfrezi (£5.75) was hot enough for doop but not too hot for Kake - a miracle! doop (our jalfrezi expert) said it was fine but not outstanding. Roshun sabzee (vegetables with garlic, £3 as side dish) was bizarre, like frozen mixed vegetables (peas, sweetcorn, green beans, little cubes of carrot, shrivelled-up mushrooms) just fried for ages - wouldn't order this again. Courgette bhaji (£3 as side dish) and begun bhaji (£3) were a lot better, the courgettes and aubergines cooked just right; a fair bit of oil used in both, but not to excess, so they're not low-fat dishes, but also weren't greasy. Pilau rice (£1.55) was competent without being anything special.
Kake's verdict: If they were closer, I'd certainly give them another go - but I do feel a bit bad dragging the driver all the way from SE13 to SE16!
