The Hatchet was a traditional Greene King pub by Mansion House Station in the City. According to the Dec 2016/Jan 2017 London Drinker it has now closed and been replaced by a pub/bar known as the Three Cranes, run by the same people as the Euston Tap and Holborn Whippet.

The information below is retained for historical purposes.

A traditional Greene King pub by Mansion House Station in the City.

The pub has two rooms in a compact area. The first room on entering from the street is all wood-panelled with a bare wooden floor and largely empty but for one single high table, shelves around the edge of the room to rest drinks on, and a bar. The second room adjoins it to the rear of the pub, with carpet and four or five tables seating about 18 people maximum.

There are two handpulls at the bar dispensing Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale, and it doesn't look like these ever change. There are also the standard draught lagers including Guinness.

The place was fairly empty on a Monday evening when Ewan visited, but no doubt gets packed out later in the week. There is no evidence of any food being offered, except for crisps.

Ewan's verdict: This small pub has all the look of an old-fashioned City boozer, and it very much satisfies on that count.
