British cafe in Swanley.

It's a step up from a greasy spoon, without being expensive or pretentious. The walls are plain white, but decorated with relief mouldings themed around coffee and vintage transport. Black formica-topped tables are flanked by freestanding red-painted wooden chairs, and padded banquettes run along the walls. The ordering system (order and pay at the counter) is clearly indicated on the menu.

Kake and Toby visited on a Friday lunchtime in August 2017. There were quite a few people in when we arrived around 12:15pm, though still a couple of tables free.

Poached eggs on toast (£2.80) photo were simple but good. The eggs were poached just right, with runny yolks and just-set whites. The bread was good too, nothing fancy, but proper wholemeal evenly spread with butter.

A toasted sandwich with ham and cheese (£2.80) was also good, with good-quality ham and cheese, and they were happy to omit the onion which is usually included.

A cup of tea (95p) was a generous size and brewed weak as requested. Service was friendly, and our food came relatively quickly.

Kake's verdict: I'd definitely come back if I was in the area and wanted a quick and well-priced lunch or breakfast.

Child-friendliness: They were friendly and welcoming to Toby (who is 5). They have a small children's menu consisting of things with chips (nothing vegetarian).

Accessibility: A step to get in. Once you're in, there are no more steps, including to the toilet (a single unisex cubicle).
