On the corner of Parkway and Albert Street, the Spread Eagle was a very nice Young's pub with decent food until around 2006, then it was refurbished and Young's got bought. It's now just another beer-pusher, and the selection of ales was greatly reduced from the whole of Young's range to 2 or 3 Young's and Bombardier. They also have Leffe and two other Belgian beers (as well as the usual array of lagers).
The Spread used to serve very good food, too, but that also went down the hill after management changed (the kitchen staff changed too).
Even the bar staff was replaced, and instead of the friendly and laid back people you'll now find some non-descript staff in a branded uniform.
It's always full like an egg on Friday afternoon, so be sure to get there soon, if you must.
