Pub in Coulsdon, run by the Stonegate Pub Company.
The decor is fairly standard for a chain pub, with bare boards in the centre and patterned carpet around the edges. Seating is a mix of banquettes, tall stools and tables, and normal chairs and tables. A brick feature wall to one side is hung with framed pictures of Coulsdon in the past, and another opposite is covered with a full-height oversized print of an old map of the local area. A large skylight next to the bar lets in a reasonable amount of natural light.
Kake visited on a Wednesday lunchtime in April 2017. There were about a dozen people in when I arrived a little after noon, scattered around the pub in small groups. Music was playing, not too loud.
Eight of the nine handpumps were on, offering Dorking Pilcrow Pale, Dorking DB One, St Austell Proper Job, Hogs Back T.E.A., London Pride, Bombardier, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, and Courage Best. Some but not all of them had little sample jars next to them to show the colour of the ale. The Courage Best was in decent condition.
Food is served all day. I went for their Wednesday "pie and a pint" deal (£6), which gets you any pie from the menu plus a pint of any beer of ABV 4% or less. Cornish pasty with chips and beans (normally £7.50) photo] was fine. The pastry was decent quality, and there was a reasonable quantity of meat inside. The chips actually tasted of potato and were competently fried. A condiment tray was brought with my meal, though without any vinegar.
Service was friendly and helpful.
Child-friendliness: There were a couple of children in during our visit, and there seems to be a children's menu of some kind.
Accessibility: No steps to get in. Some of the seating is on a dais, but there's a ramp to get up there. There's a RADAR-locked accessible toilet on the level (other toilets are in the basement). There are no steps to the smoking area, but all the seating out there is at high tables.
