Milk Bar, W1D 4AG

A coffee shop and cafe in Soho, opened by the same people who created nearby Flat White.

Note: As of September 2020, Eater London states that Milk Bar has closed for good, but there doesn't seem to be anything official on Milk Bar's website, Twitter, or Facebook to confirm this, while their Instagram just says "Closed for now", so it seems possible that the closure may not be permanent.

This small coffee shop, located between Greek and Frith Streets and alongside the Carlisle Arms pub, has some of the same muted atmosphere of its sister cafe. It's only slightly more square in shape, with a high counter on the left of the entrance marked most notably by its shiny black La Marzocco espresso machine. The walls are hung with photographs for sale, and one assumes that different artists will feature over time.

Small tables line the walls, with banquette seating. There are a few daily papers by the door, and self-service tap water at the end of the counter. Service is friendly as expected, and one of the staff even refilled Ewan's glass of water at one point. At 1pm on a Wednesday, the place was hardly busy at all.

Apart from the excellent coffees (a long black is £2, but slightly cheaper to takeaway), they have a range of sandwiches and salads, all at around £5-6. There are also a few breakfast options. Ewan's toasted feta cheese and butternut squash panini sandwich had a chilli tang to it, and was quite tasty.

A good addition to Soho's cafe culture.
