Greene King pub on the river in Rotherhithe. Cosy bar on the ground floor leading out to a enclosed wooden jetty over the river.
The bar itself is fairly accessible, with just one shallow step, but there are more steps up to the jetty and the door leading out is very narrow. The ladies' and gents' loos are on the same level as the bar. Children are not allowed in the bars or on the jetty, but are welcome in the restaurant upstairs if eating.
We paid £6.20 for one pint of Old Speckled Hen and one of Abbot Ale. Bob said that they were both kept reasonably well "for once".
Food is served noon-2:30pm and 6pm-9:30pm Mon-Fri; noon-9:30pm Sat; and noon-9pm Sun. They specialise in fish dishes, from the humble fishfinger sandwich (£5) up through oysters (£9.50 for half a dozen) and "posh fish and chips" (£15.80) to the half-kilo lobster sandwich (£26.50). They also offer exotic meats, such as springbok sausages, kangaroo steak, and Kobe beef burger. It's not cheap in general; main courses all start at around £11.50 and starters at around £4.50 (the cheapest option is soup at £3.50).
