An up-market residential and commercial area within the City of Westminster, which (rarely for areas of London) has strongly defined borders -- Park Lane to the west, Oxford Street to the north, Regent Street to the east, and Piccadilly to the south. It lies within the W1 postal district.

The estate was developed largely during the 18th century, when a number of squares and residential streets were laid out, while fashionable shops started to line Bond Street.

It has a reputation for being one of the most exclusive areas of London, and in this respect is perhaps best known as the most expensive property in the Monopoly boardgame. It is a popular site for embassies (such as the huge fortress-like American Embassy on Grosvenor Square). Trendy and exclusive shops and boutiques line not only Bond Street, but South Audley Street, South Molton Street, Savile Row and Conduit Street, among others. It also boasts a number of nightclubs popular amongst celebrities and the wealthy.
