Chipstead Tandoori was an Indian restaurant in Chipstead, very near the station. It has now closed. As of 2019, although a business of the same name still exists at the same address, it's just a takeaway and possibly isn't run by the same people.

The information below is retained for historical purposes.

Indian restaurant in Chipstead, very near the station. They also do takeaway and delivery, with online ordering via their website. They are fully licensed.

The decor is clean and modern, with brightly painted walls and chairs upholstered in contrasting colours photo. Tables are covered in white linen, and real flower buds sit in small vases on top.

Kake and bob visited on a Saturday lunchtime in May 2015. There were no other customers in when we arrived around 12:45pm, and this remained the case over the hour we were there, even though one of the other tables had a "Reserved" sign on it. Music was turned on when we arrived, not too loud.

We decided to go for some starter portions of lamb chops, plus vegetable side dishes to share. The lamb chops (£4 for two) photo were OK, with a nice lemoney tang to the marinade, and the meat wasn't too dry.

Saag aloo (£3.25) wasn't bad, with a good texture to the potatoes and spinach, and some crisp pieces of onion to add interest; it was a little too salty though. Brinjal bhaji (£3.25) was disappointing, with the flavourless aubergines clearly having been cooked separately from the sauce. Mushroom bhaji (£3.25) was OK photo of all three dishes. Chana bhaji (£3.25) photo was perhaps the best of the lot, though this isn't saying much. Rice (£2.40) was fine, and a generous portion.

Service was friendly, if a little over-hovery, and tap water (in pint glasses) was brought swiftly on request. A 10% service charge was auto-added to the bill.

Kake's verdict: There are very few places to eat out in Chipstead, but even so, I doubt I'd bother with this one again.

Accessibility: A step to get in. There's an accessible toilet on this level (other toilets in the basement) as well as seating for about ten people. The rest of the seating is down a handful of steps with handrail.
