Iranian cafe on Denmark Hill in Camberwell, also offering takeaway and delivery.

It's really quite small, with just four small tables for eat-in. There are three glass counters full of food, two with pre-prepared savoury food and one with cakes. The savoury food comes in three sizes — small, medium, and large — and is heated to order. The food currently on offer is written on a blackboard behind the counter, and may differ slightly from the selection on their takeaway leaflet.

secretlondon has been wanting to try this place for a while and went one weekday in March 2020. The person behind the counter was keen to tell me that everything they sell is home made and I believe him.

I had a large lamb beryani (£8) which wasn't quite what I expected. I was thinking I'd get something a bit like biryani or pilau, but this was a sticky saffron rice with green beans and small cubes of lamb. The Iranian term on the menu, lobia polo bagosht (green bean rice with lamb), is possibly a clearer description.

I also had a small tub of kasha-o-bademjan (aubergine dip with mint and whey; £4 without bread) which was lovely. The sourness of the whey and the herbs worked really well together. To finish I had a couple of home made cookies. They had a variety, and I chose some small ones for 50p each. They were nice and not too sweet.

secretlondon's verdict: I want to try more of the menu as it's pretty interesting.
