Pub and hotel in Watford, in the Good Beer Guide.
It's an L-shaped space inside, with the bar in the inner corner. Decor is traditional, with a patterned carpet, half-panelled walls, leaded-glass windows, and a mix of freestanding chairs, low stools, and banquettes. Old photos of the pub and the local area hang on the walls.
Kake visited on a Thursday lunchtime in October 2018. There were around half a dozen other customers when I arrived just before 1pm, and more turned up while I was there, some of them in for lunch, others for just a drink. The flatscreens were switched off, and the radio was playing quietly, a mix of music and news.
The handpumps were clipped for three real ales: Tring Brock Bitter, Fuller's American Fall, and London Pride. A pint of lime and soda was £1.20.
According to the Wellington Arms website as of October 2018, food is served 11am-9pm Mon-Thu, 11am-5pm Fri-Sat, and noon-5pm Sun.
In October 2018, Kake tried the steamed salmon with rice and steamed vegetables (£6.75) photo. It was OK for pub food, but not great. The salmon was overcooked and dry, and the chopped herb sprinkled on top had so little flavour I couldn't even tell what it was. The veg (carrots, peas, and green beans) were a little spongy, but at least they weren't overcooked. The rice was a bit easy-cook, but fine for what it was.
Accessibility: A small step to get in, no more than an inch or so. No steps to bar, seating, or toilets.
