Kauri Tree Cafe, N16 0JL

  • 178 Stoke Newington Church Street

Kauri Tree Cafe was a small cafe on Stoke Newington Church Street. According to Google Street View, it closed down by August 2017.

The information below is retained for historical purposes.

Small cafe on Stoke Newington Church Street, opened in July 2013 (according to the Twitter feed). It's next door to the Fox Reformed.

The interior is wood-panelled for an 'artisanal' feel, with the sandwich and drinks menus written above the counter on a chalkboard. There are two small tables by the large bay windows at the front (which offer excellent people-watching views of Church Street), one 4-person table and another larger trestle-sized table. There's a table to one side featuring plenty of pastries and cakes, and home made bread (which is used for the sandwiches).

It wasn't too busy on Kat's Monday morning visit in December 2014, though a fair number of customers came in to order takeaway coffees. A small latte was £2.20 and a (slightly stale) flapjack was 95p. It felt a bit expensive compared to the Spence Bakery opposite, though quieter and cosier. Service was friendly and efficient. They don't take cards however, so bring cash.

Accessibility: A low step to get in. I didn't see any customer toilets.
