The Cafe on the Square was a Costa Coffee outlet on the ground floor reception area of Birkbeck College, in Bloomsbury, near the entrance to the Library. It has now closed. As of September 2017 the space is being refurbished and will reopen as something else.

The square in the name refers to Torrington Square onto which it faces. Although this is in a College building, the cafe is open to the public (confirmed via email from the Birkbeck helpdesk, November 2009).

It is part of the reception area and has some tables. Cheaper coffee is available in the student union shop in the basement.

secretlondon has drunk here lots of times. It generally closes an hour before the library but they have claimed to close to clean their coffee machine earlier. It doesn't do flavoured coffees. It does bits of food like a few sandwiches and some cakes.

Don't even think about trying to get a seat between 5 and 6pm on weekdays — Birkbeck peak times.

Accessibility: Step free access. There is a toilet with a RADAR lock nearby.
