Outpost of the Byron burger chain, opened in the former Intrepid Fox pub in Soho.
This busy branch of the successful chain, which prides itself on the sourcing of its meat, may retain the name of the much-loved (at least by certain people) old pub, but it retains very little else. The ground-floor room features the kitchen at the back, with a large square space for seating, plenty of light, and looped film being shown on the rear wall. Booths are laid out under the windows, with tables packed tightly into the rest of the space. There is additional seating downstairs, which is used only in peak periods.
The quality of the burgers is similar to the other sites for this chain (i.e. good quality, in Ewan's opinion), and to achieve this consistency, the menu sticks to a fairly short list of burgers and sides, along with a few salads and desserts. The menu is on the website, but for the quality of the burger, the prices are fairly reasonable (£6.50 for their classic burger photo, rising to £8.75 for their most expensive, which comes with mature cheddar and bacon). The size is also compact enough that it's not overwhelming, and can be cooked however the diner likes (Ewan requests medium-rare, though their standard is medium).
Fries on the side are standard stringy ones (£3), though they also do skin-on chips as well as courgette fries (both £3.25) photo, excellent and crispy, though with quite a lot of batter, so best for sharing.
Accessibility: A small step to get in, and the toilets are downstairs.
