Bombay Burrito, EC1V 7JL

A bright, cheerful takeaway near Angel tube station, selling curry-filled burritos and tacos.

According to their Facebook page, Bombay Burrito opened in December 2012. Although burritos and curry may not sound like a happy combination, the replacement of beans with chickpeas (and sour cream with raita) seems completely logical once you're ordering.

The setup is similar to other build-your-own burrito chains such as Benitos Hat or Chilango: you order at the counter, choosing a filling (chicken, beef or paneer), a sauce (korma, tikka masala, dansak or jalfrezi) and your toppings (onions, lettuce, raita, chillis, coriander). As such the menu options are quite limited, but are excellent value (regular-size burritos are all £5 regardless of filling).

The decor is basic but airy and clean, with several small tables for those wishing to dine in and watch the passing traffic on the ring road. By the till there is a lovely and definitely-not-photoshopped picture of the Queen enjoying the delights that Bombay Burrito has to offer.

They serve a selection of the more standard BrewDog beers with a slight markup (£1-3).

Kat visited on a Wednesday evening (around 7pm) in May 2013 with a large group of friends. There were only two other customers so there was plenty of room for us. The paneer dansak burrito (£5) with extra onions and raita was very tasty; the paneer was crispy and salty, the portion size was spot on and the spice levels were just enough to make the tip of your tongue go a bit numb.

Kat's verdict: I would definitely return if I was in the area and needed a quick bite to eat on the way to/from somewhere nearby.

As of May 2013 there was a sign outside advertising a 10% student discount, and free Wi-Fi.

Accessibility: a low step to get in, toilets are downstairs.
