Nepalese and Indian restaurant in Eltham, part of a small chain. They also do takeaway and delivery, with online ordering via Hungry House and via Just Eat.

It's situated in a old pub, and vestiges of the building's past life can still be seen under the faux-rustic touches such as exposed brick pillars and half-log railings photo. On entry, one is faced by a canopied bar, though it doesn't seem to be used for service. An empty tiled fireplace sits to one side, and a railed-off dais with padded sofas is in the adjoining corner. The ceiling is low and the lighting is dim, provided by small recessed spotlights rather than the ornate but seemingly entirely decorative copper lanterns hung here and there.

Kake visited on a Tuesday lunchtime in September 2016. I was the only customer at 1pm, and remained so throughout my visit. Woodwind music was playing, not too loud.

I went for their lunch special, which offered two courses for £11 with four choices per course. A starter of samosa chat photo had good flavours, with noticeable whole spices, and the peas in the samosa filling weren't overcooked. The pastry had an interesting doughy texture but was unfortunately rather stale, in parts to the point where it was impossible to cut.

My main was mixed seafood photo. The seafood was a varied selection, not overcooked, and although the sauce was quite unexciting, at least it wasn't too sweet. The rice was good, with nicely separate grains, and studded with whole spices (peppercorns and cardamom).

Service was helpful, albeit a little nervous-seeming. Tap water was provided on request, and topped up without me having to ask. A 10% service charge was added to the bill.

Kake's verdict: I'd come here again if others wanted to come, but would be unlikely to suggest it myself.

Child-friendliness: They have a small and unimaginative children's menu with no vegetarian main course option.

Accessibility: Two steps to get in, one of them quite large. Toilets not checked.
