Comment added by Kake: No Kriek though (have not checked the rest of Ewan's list). Menu says food served noon-10pm Mon-Sun. Ten choices of "snacks and sharers" ("1 plate - snack for 1 £3.50; 3 plates - for 2 to share £9; 4 plates - nibbles with your mates £11") e.g. meatballs, tomato sauce, and Monterey Jack; calamari with anchovy mayo; marinated and chargrilled halloumi and vegetable skewers. Sandwiches from 4.10. Mains between 6.70 ("veggie nicoise" with Moroccan flatbread - hummous, egg, salad, etc, apparently) and 10.50 (8oz ribeye steak with all the trimmings). Coffee is by Illy (espresso/Americano 1.50, cappuccino/latte 1.70).

Combined ladies'/disabled loo on the ground floor, though they have tied up the lightswitch cord so you'd have great trouble reaching it from a wheelchair.

No background music. Mismatched chairs and tables, hardwood floors. Big windows at the front for those who like the sunlight, hideaway areas at the back for the light-averse.

A pub convenient to both the South Bank and Waterloo Station, suffers from the usual after-work crowding and can get busy at weekends as well, with some younger rowdier drinkers. So, not a great atmosphere.

However, it does have a fairly extensive range of German and Belgian lagers on tap, as well as real ales (Deuchars IPA when I visited). The lagers served on tap are Erdinger Weisse, Franziskaner, Strawberry Fruli, Belle Vue Kriek, Maredsous Blonde, Schneider Weizen Hell, Budvar, Leffe, Hoegaarden, Staropramen, and the other usual suspects.

They also have a food menu with a few vegetarian and vegan options, though the food itself is nothing spectacular. Food is served noon-10:30pm Monday to Saturday, and noon-9:30pm Sunday.

There is very little in the way of an outdoor area -- the smoking area is a very thin stretch of pavement and patrons are asked not to drink on Theed Street along the side of the pub.

Last visited by Ewan and Jo, August 2007. Food times verified on that visit. Opening hours taken from Time Out website, April 2008.

Comment added by Kake: Pint of Pride 2.75. Black Sheep and Deuchars IPA too. Leffe, strawberry Fruli, Aspall Suffolk Cyder also on tap (Hoegaarden tap has a sign saying "sorry, out of stock"). Pavement drinking area is indeed quite thin, and there are notices asking people not to stray outside the rope barriers and warning that outside drinking is only allowed until 10pm.
