Cafe in Forest Hill, roughly halfway between Forest Hill Station and the Horniman Museum.
Entry is into a small space with a service counter to one side. Groceries are arranged on shelves opposite the counter — Teapigs teabags, various jams, Italian cakes in fancy tins, and so on. Steps lead up from here to a seating area with pale cream walls, bare floorboards, and wooden chairs and tables painted a pale greenish-grey. An old-fashioned dresser holds a selection of interesting teapots, and teapot-themed art hangs on the walls photo.
Kake and friends visited on a Friday lunchtime in April 2017. There were a handful of other customers in when we arrived a little before noon, but plenty of free tables. Music was playing, not too loud.
Kake's prosciutto and mozzarella panini (£5) photo was pretty good. The ingredients were good quality, and in good proportion to each other and to the amount of bread. The side salad was varied and fresh, though a spot of dressing wouldn't have hurt.
Toby's child's portion of pasta-of-the-day photo was good too; the sauce was obviously house-made, and had plenty of flavour.
A pot of rooibos tea was made with a teabag, but a good-quality one. The cup was warmed, which was a really nice touch.
Kake's verdict: I'd come back if I was in the area.
Accessibility: A small ramp to get in. The seating is up three steps, and the toilets are down another two steps from there.
