Incongruous but rather nice pub just across the road from Stamford Brook Station.
The bar is a single room, fronting on Goldhawk Road. Back-to-back pew seating lines the wall next to the front windows, with a long wooden table and mismatched chairs next to it. Dilapidated sofas further towards the back complete the furnishings. There's some kind of beer garden out the back, and ambient conversation on a visit in June 2008 suggested that they'd just installed some trees.
Kake visited on a Tuesday afternoon in June 2008. They appear to have one regular beer on handpump (Henry's IPA, which is a new one on me) and one guest. The guest was Cameron's Castle Eden, at £1.55/half. Unfortunately I'd just missed my chance at food, so I had to be satisfied with a packet of crisps, which cost £1, but were pretty good (Pipers brand).
Service was friendly; a nice young chap who balanced service with chatting to regulars pretty well. Background music was soul/jazz (I suck at categorisations - it wasn't bland or boring, anyway) and not too loud; though from several visits a few years ago I seem to remember they turn it up to annoying levels later in the evening.
Unfortunately on a second visit in July 2008, all the real ales were off. Scrumpy Jack was £1.65/half.
According to a menu seen outside in June 2008, food is served noon-3pm and 6pm-10:30pm Mon-Fri; noon-10:30pm Sat; and noon-2:30pm Sun, and there's a "two courses for £10" evening offer Monday-Thursday (from a special menu).
Accessibility: one step up to enter the pub; ladies' and gents' both on same level as main bar.
