A once disappointing local in Peckham, which has in the past year (2007) been refurbished and now presents itself as something of a gastropub. This isn't to say you can't get a drink there, but it'll be a far better one than you could before.
Update July 2010: The pub's quality had taken a nosedive, but thankfully it is now back on form, with a recent change of owners and menu; hopefully they will make a success of it, competing with the Victoria Inn down the road; the Montpelier is quieter and has fewer annoying hipsters, with more of a laid-back proper pub feel.
Decor is stripped wooden floors, with lots of leather chairs along the wall, tables of various sizes, and some large sofas at the back. They also clearly welcome dogs in the pub, with water bowls being provided for them.
They have 4 real ales on tap; on Jakob's last visit (July 2010), they had Sambrook Wandle and Sambrook Junction, T.E.A., and one other on. There is an extensive wine list and a decent if not outstanding collection of spirits.
The pub also serves food, with a daily menu; prices range from about £7.50 for sausage and mash to about £15 for steak and chips. On his visit, Jakob had an excellent burger, which was properly medium-rare and came with chips and very good home-made coleslaw (£8). They also do Sunday roasts, which look good.
