Food co-operative near Elephant & Castle.

It sells wholefoods and vegan products at 10% above cost price (to cover rent, rates, etc.). It is 100% vegan and sugar free, and mostly organic. They will also order in food for you from their wholesalers.

They sell a lot of food unpackaged so bringing your own bags is highly recommended. All the staff are volunteers and will help you but won't 'serve' you. You weigh out the food yourself and write down the cost. You then add it up yourself using the provided calculators and pay the volunteer.

You don't have to join anything to shop here, it's open to the public.

They sell lots of grains and pulses, and a variety of organic fruit and veg. They also have vegan toothpaste, washing liquid and things like moon cups. The fridge contains tofu, vegan margarine and miso.

secretlondon thinks this place is awesome, and makes time to come here on Thursdays after work. Next door is the 56a Infoshop which sells Zapatista coffee, chocolate and has a free book exchange. It should be noted that all the staff are volunteers and because of this sometimes it doesn't open. Last time I came here on a Saturday it was closed but was let in by staff at the Infoshop.
