Historical version 9 of Category Samuel Smith's (view current version)

A chain of brewery-owned pubs serving solely own-brand drinks, including spirits, and even down to juices, cola, and other soft drinks. The cider compares favourably to Strongbow, and makes a nice change. Real ale lovers often complain bitterly if asked to go to a Sam Smith's pub. A few of their bottled beers seem to be acceptable, though. DrHyde thinks that the beer is at least tolerable, and the cheap prices make up for it not being great.

Prices in Sam Smith's pubs are a lot lower than other pubs, and the prices seem to be standardised (in London, at least). One of their bitters is £1.78, their Extra Stout is £2.15, and their Wheat Beer is £2.70. Update March 2008: prices have perhaps been increased by 5%. However, prices are still significantly below other pubs' prices.

According to Wikipedia, all Sam Smith's beers are vegan.

Decor tends towards the old-fashioned, with plenty of wood. Sam Smith's are particularly notable for retaining authentic (and some less so) period Victorian fittings in their pubs.
