It is set over many levels, in the same brutalist concrete style as the rest of the Barbican. The main auditorium has a ticket desk and cloakroom on level -1 (Stalls), with Circle entrance above on level G. There are bars serving drinks, coffee and snacks on both levels. This space hosts the major events, generally classical concerts.

Another side of the main space has a theatre, with a large cinema screen downstairs (level -2), and two other screens upstairs on level 4 (note that Cinema 3 is a particularly long walk around the top of level 4, so allow extra time for getting there). There are also galleries and exhibition halls, a library, as well as a very lovely and surprising garden area on level 3.

For food, the main outlet is the Waterside (on level 1), which has different counters for serving hot food (usually a meat, fish and vegetarian option), desserts and sandwiches. Mains are around £6-7, and a large selection of desserts and cakes. The seating itself is fairly functional and the space lacks any discernible ambience. Drinking water taps are provided. Other dining options are the Brasserie on level 1 and Searcy's Bar/Restaurant on level 2, a more upmarket outlet with two courses for £24.50.
