Comment added by secretlondon: My mental understanding of Bankside is much more like Wikipedia's - between Blackfriars and London Bridge. It certainly doesn't stretch up to and beyond Tower Bridge. I was about to remove this locale from an place near Shad Thames but actually this definition would cover it!

An area along the south bank of the River Thames, based around the former Bankside Power Station (now the Tate Modern).

Opinions differ as to its extent but for the purposes of this guide, it stretches roughly from Blackfriars Bridge east to Tower Bridge, and as far as St Saviour's Wharf (where the Design Museum is based).

West of Blackfriars Bridge is the South Bank, a branded area by the South Bank Centre, now increasingly filled with chain restaurants and cafes.
