An area of London around the historic shopping thoroughfare (though it has been displaced as the centre of London shopping since the 19th Century by [[Locale Oxford Street|Oxford Street]] and that part of the West End). It is within the City of Westminster and in modern times is dominated at the eastern end by [[Locale Aldwych|Aldwych]] and the Royal Courts of Justice.
