A loud but not unpleasant DJ bar in Shoreditch (not really Hoxton).
This new bar, replacing a former incarnation (Pool Bar), is certainly shiny. Surfaces gleam black and red, though there's some odd natural history dioramas with stuffed birds to each side of the bar to add a bit of nature. Low tables alternate with high ones around the side of the room. Downstairs is a dancefloor and DJ area.
The focus here is on the cocktail list (all around £7-£8). Ewan tried a gin-based cocktail, and it was perfectly nice, not too insipid at all. They also have Meantime Helles and Pilsner Urquell beers on draught (£3.50/pint), as well as bottled Pride, Innis & Gunn, Brew Dog Islay Finish, and others.
There's a food menu (which can be found on the website), which emphasises traditional English foods (pub food really, despite the setting), and are priced at around £7-£9 for a main.
Service is friendly, perhaps a little too insistent (you're unlikely even to get a chance to order at the bar, though before 9pm they won't charge service on your bill).
