On a Friday lunchtime in June 2008, bob had no problem getting a table. The only other customers were a group of about 10. The food was very good. I had the 'Taste of Summer' lunch deal for £16.50, which was three courses and a glass of wine photoset. |

Kake and bob visited again on a Wednesday lunchtime in August 2009; there were plenty of free tables on this visit, too. We again went for the set lunch (now £15 for two courses or £17 for three, drinks not included) photo of menu. |
The food was very good. I had the 'Taste of Summer' lunch deal for £16.50, which was three courses and a glass of wine. A bottle of still water was £3.20. |

Kake started with the potted mackerel photo. The mackerel was good; nice and rich and well-seasoned. The accompanying pickled baby beetroot was quite mild, contrasting with the much sharper pickled baby carrots. bob went for the charentais melon with roquefort and endives photo. For mains, Kake had the steak tartare photo. It was fine. The accompanying frites were good and hot and crispy, but sadly oversalted. bob had the duck confit with roasted flat peach photo. Kake's verdict: Not sure. The obvious comparison in the area is La Trompette, which I think has the edge in terms of finesse, but is also more expensive. I think I'd prioritise a revisit to La Trompette over a revisit to Le Vacherin. Accessibility: A small step up to get in, and a larger step up into the single (small) cubicle of the ladies'. |
