The pub is quite bare-bones inside, with wooden floor and tables, plain-painted walls hung with black-and-white photos of jazz legends, and bullseye glass in the windows. The bar front is a mix of tiling and wood panelling, with a wood-and-glass gantry above. Seating is primarily on small wooden chairs, though there's also a narrow upholstered banquette at the back. A patio out the front offers extra seating space.

[[Kake]] visited on a Monday afternoon in June 2019. There were a couple of people sitting on the patio when I arrived a little after 1pm, and a couple more inside. Music was playing, not too loud (and not jazz).

The management at the Duke of Hamilton changed in early 2011; the pub closed for refurbishment and reopened on 1 March 2011 owned by The Three Boozers pub company. However very little changed in terms of decor (aside from a coat of paint and a new carpet), and the ambience remained the same — a proper old-style real ale pub.

Inside, the decor is traditional photo from before the refurb, with a patterned carpet on the floor, patterned upholstered banquettes, velvet curtains with pelmets and tiebacks, and a stained-glass gantry above the bar. The only incongruous note is the large flatscreen mounted near the ceiling in one corner. There's patio seating out the front, as well as a fairly sizeable space out the back. The basement is home to a theatre which is also available for hire.
