Given the options for drinking in Soho, the Nellie Dean is a perfectly pleasant place without any pretensions, though it still gets crowded on a weekday evening.
Importantly (and rarely) for this area, it also has a pool table upstairs (£1) where the local rules seemed to be winner-stays-on.
It has a range of fairly standard ales on tap, as well as a well-kept Deuchars IPA.

Comment added by Bec: Also, pool is free Monday (evenings only?) and there's a jukebox where Jo found lots of tacky 80s and Now compilations.
Also reasonable money wise - my round of 2 pints of Deuchers and 2 pints of Fosters was £12.20.
