A long-standing French cafe on Greek Street in Soho, established 1871, which has recently branched out into fashion, hosting a small boutique in the basement of number 27.
Maison Bertaux has been serving coffees and teas alongside exquisite pastries and cakes since the late-19th century, and shows no sign of a lack in quality. The main cafe is at number 28, where there are a few small tables, as well as a larger and generally emptier room up some very narrow stairs at the back of the shop. They have recently expanded next door, adding a few more tables in an attractively decorated space, though you have to exit to the street to move between the two spaces.
Tea is served in pots with a strainer and a jug of hot water provided. The pastries are all excellent quality, with some particularly attractive choux-based pastries with plenty of cream and fresh fruit, as well as chocolate mousse and a range of tarts and cakes.
