The Bavarian Beerhouse was a German bar on City Road. It [http://www.bavarian-beerhouse.co.uk/london/london-old-street/ closed down for good] in July 2018. According to the April/May 2019 London Drinker, this was due to redevelopment of the building it was housed in. |
Situated in a large cellar on City Road, the Bavarian Beerhouse provides a relatively authentic German experience. They offer several German beers, as well as German food. |

The Wurstplattes (sausage platters; £9.50 and £11.50) are good but not as large as they used to be. The pork shank (£13.50) is very large and even defeated [[Bob]]. (Although I think with more gravy I might have finished it --[[Bob]]). |

Situated in a large cellar on City Road, the Bavarian Beerhouse provides a relatively authentic German experience. They offer several German beers, as well as German food.
The Wurstplattes (sausage platters; £9.50 and £11.50) are good but not as large as they used to be. The pork shank (£13.50) is very large and even defeated Bob. (Although I think with more gravy I might have finished it --Bob).
The Erdinger Dunkel (£6.90 for a litre) was very drinkable.
On a Saturday afternoon visit it was full of Germans watching football on a large screen. This led to slightly slow (but still quite friendly) service. On a later visit on a Thursday night it was also quite busy, but everyone was at tables so it was less hectic.
If going as a large group there will be lots of faff with setting up individual tabs which can take some of the joy out of it.
