Refurbished in 2008, this is now a rather pleasant little spot in a quiet residential area. There are good sized tables with plenty of room for spreading out Sunday papers, friendly service and a bright airy interior. The clientele is noticeably more varied and inclusive than in most gastropubs in the area. |

A quiet pub in a residential area just behind Streatham Station, in Streatham.
Refurbished in 2008, this is now a rather pleasant little spot in a quiet residential area. There are good sized tables with plenty of room for spreading out Sunday papers, friendly service and a bright airy interior. The clientèle is noticeably more varied and inclusive than in most gastropubs in the area.
They have four handpulls, with a regularly changing selection of guest ales and ciders, as well as a good selection of draught lagers and a wine list. On 13 March 2011, this included Powerhouse Porter and Morland Excalibur Scotch Ale.
Food is served, including weekend brunch and Sunday roast. On a visit in October 2008, Ewan had a very tasty beetroot risotto with goats cheese, brightly coloured from the beetroot, and with a topping of rocket, which for the price (around £6.50), was a large portion photo. Jo had what was essentially eggs florentine (poached egg, spinach, hollandaise sauce) perched on a stack of mashed potato with a large mushroom, which was certainly an odd presentation, but very tasty.
On a March 2011 visit, itsbruce and Jen shared the cheese board (£6.50) and a salmon and haddock fish cakes starter (£6) photo. The fish cakes were made from scratch on the premises, quite excellent and served with a well seasoned salad and tartar sauce. The four cheeses were all good picks, including Black Bomber and Oxford Isis.
