It's not a particularly traditional-style pub, but although it seems to have gone through a few refurbishments and changes of management over the years, the current publicans have been there since early 2007 so it looks as though their choice of style is working. The decor is light and bright, with white-painted walls set off by exposed floorboards and wooden chairs and tables. The smallish room is dominated by the U-shaped bar, and a selection of books and board games are available in a bookcase towards the back of the room. Candles sit on the tables, cacti adorn the windowsills, and the wine list is chalked up on a board. There's some kind of beer garden too. |
According to the 2010 Good Beer Guide, there's no food but there is a cheeseboard on offer every day. |

[[Kake]] visited on a Thursday afternoon in September 2009. Aside from me and a chap who sat in the corner and tapped on his laptop while muttering to himself, the customers consisted entirely of some kind of mother-and-baby meetup, complete with pushchairs. Music was playing, not too loud, and fairly interesting folk/rock sort of stuff, certainly not bland. Real ales available were Meantime LPA (£1.60/half), Ringwood Best, and Wychwood Hobgoblin. They don't do proper food, but there is a rather nice-looking cheese selection on offer throughout the day, displayed in a temperature-controlled unit on the bar and offered at £7.50 (as of September 2009) for three items plus bread, apples, and condiments. The cheese selection is focused on English cheeses, and on the interesting side; examples noted in September 2009 included Stinking Bishop, Colton Basset Stilton, Somerset Brie, Ashmore, Ragstone, and Cerney Ash. Accessibility: A step up to get in. Level access to the bar, seating area, and ladies' once you're in (gents' and beer garden not checked). |
