Randomness Guide to London - Differences between Version 16 and Version 15 of Ladywell Tavern, SE13 7HS

Version 16 Version 15

It was taken over by Laine's brewery/pub chain in late 2016, and reopened after refurbishment in December 2016. (See <a href="http://london.randomness.org.uk/wiki.cgi?id=Ladywell_Tavern%2C_SE13_7HS&version=9">earlier version of this page</a> for what it was like before.)
<b>Note:</b> As of August 2016, Brockley Central reports that the Ladywell Tavern has closed for a couple of months for refurbishment.

It's a U-shaped space, with the bar in the centre. The walls are mainly exposed brick, but a couple of feature walls are hung with floral wallpaper. The floor is bare boards, and seating a mix of upright wooden chairs, padded banquettes, and church pews. Flowers in small vases sit on the tables. One arm of the "U" is home to a small book swap space, and the other has a piano.
In addition, it's gone through at least one change of management since the below was written, so some of it may be out of date.

Kake visited on a Monday lunchtime in November 2017. There were already half a dozen other customers when I arrived just after noon, though this was mainly one group of parents and children, all of whom departed around an hour later. Music was playing, on the funky side, not too loud.
Following its previous reopening in June 2008, they've done a decent enough job making the place look sprightly and fresh, with wooden floors, comfortable sofas as well as plenty of tables. One side of the bar is bright and airy, though the other (where the pool tables used to be) seems a little darker and can echo rather noisily with peoples' conversations. Outside, the beer garden is merely perfunctory, but on the whole the place is welcoming and comfortable inside.

Two of the four handpumps were clipped, for Brockley Brewery Red Ale and Laine's Bestest Bitter. A pint of lime and soda was &pound;1.40 and came with two wedges of browning-at-the-edges lime. Service was friendly, welcoming, and helpful.
Ewan, Bec, and friends visited on a Sunday afternoon in June 2008. There were two ales on handpump (Bombardier and Adnam's Bitter) as well as Addlestone's cider, Amstel and others on draught. There was a wine list available as well, with 175ml glasses ("small") at &pound;3.25-&pound;5.

As of November 2017, food is served noon-10pm Mon-Fri, 11am-10pm Sat, and noon-8pm Sun <small>photo of menu</small>. Kake tried the halloumi and red pepper hummus sandwich (&pound;6) <small>photo</small>, which came on toasted granary bread by default. The hummus seemed to be home-made; it was a bit bland, but the halloumi made up for that. The salad on the side was dressed with oil and vinegar, and generally seemed fresh aside from one small wilted leaf.
Food is served noon-3pm and 6pm-10pm daily. On the Sunday afternoon of our visit, the food menu <small>photo</small> covered the usual roast options, including a leek &amp; mushroom pie with the trimmings for vegetarians (around &pound;8.50).

Signs seen in November 2017 indicated a quiz on Wednesdays and live music on Saturdays. They have WiFi, with the access code printed on the menus and available from staff, but on our visit it was quite laggy. According to their website as of November 2017, they are dog friendly.
Service still seemed to be learning the ropes, so we felt it best to make another visit not so soon after its reopening, in order to give it a proper appraisal.

Child-friendliness: According to their website as of November 2017, children are welcome until 8pm. There seemed to be some sort of parent-and-baby meetup going on during our visit. Several of the menu options are available as children's portions, including vegetarian and vegan options. The accessible toilet has baby change facilities.
Kake finally made this visit on a Friday evening in October 2008. The ales this time were Adnams Explorer (&pound;1.60/half) and Harveys Sussex Best. Not sure what service issues Ewan experienced last time, but this time I had to stop the barmaid pouring me the wrong beer. She was very friendly though.

Accessibility: Two steps at the front entrance. Two smaller ones (but two sets of doors instead of one) at the side entrance. Once you're in, it's step-free to the toilets, including an accessible one.
The website lists a pub quiz on Tuesdays. There's also an open mic karaoke night on Thursdays.
Line 18
Accessibility: One step up to get in, but it's on one level once you're in.
