A very nice boozer in Deptford with lots going on.
House red wine is £2.70 for a large glass. Ciders on offer are Scrumpy (£3/pint) and Strongbow (£2.80) on draught, Vintage (75cl, £6.50) and Fruit (75cl, £6). There is occasionally Pride in bottles, but not always. They also offer shots for £2.50: Sambuca, B-52, Tequila Slammer, Rum & Lime and something called Squashed Frog.
Monday night is pub quiz for £1. There are four rounds including an audiovisual round (though this wasn't working when we went on 11th Feb). The prize is £10 and a bottle of wine, or gamble for the jackpot. It seems to attract a healthy mix of locals and students.
They advertise live music on Friday (hiphop/indie/punk), Saturday (rock/indie) and Sunday is something called Kelvstock (jazz/blues/funk/roots).
Weekday events are listed as:
- Tuesday: films & spoken word / poetry night;
- Wednesday: open mic with Griff, also stew night (costs £2.50);
- Thursday: Catapult Club.
They also offer an 'art space' and artists who want to exhibit should ask for more details behind the bar. A quiz machine and Mario Kart are available for gaming - I'm not sure if the Mario Kart is free or not.
Bec visited again on a Saturday in February 2007, where the vibe was definitely more towards the local and market traders from Deptford High Street market, and I have to admit I was a bit intimidated by the Career Boozers, but after nervous conversation I sat myself on a comfy sofa, listend to Dolly Parton from the old-timey jukebox and sipped my wine. There is a pool table in the back, and a few pictures - I'm not sure if this is the 'art space' available.
I am hoping to go to each weekday event and update on what it was like.
