It was previously in Zone 2 only, but in May 2021 it was [https://diamondgeezer.blogspot.com/2021/05/kennington-12.html changed to be in Zone 1 as well], in anticipation of the Northern Line extension to [[Battersea Power Station Station]]. Southbound trains on the Charing Cross branch may terminate here. Due to the tunnel arrangement south of the station (the Kennington loop; see [http://web.archive.org/web/20000919041149/http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/7069/ltkenn.gif diagram]), it's much easier to turn a Charing Cross branch train around here than a Bank branch one.
