Greasy spoon cafe on London Road in Croydon. |
Now closed; was a greasy spoon cafe on London Road in Croydon. As of April 2015 the premises are occupied by a combined cafe/pizza restaurant called Pizzeria di Prato photo. |

It's a fairly typical traditional British cafe, though following a mid-2016 refurbishment which saw the blue plastic chairs and beige formica tables replaced by a more upmarket wood effect, the ambience is now comparable to Golden Chefs Cafe down the road. Large mirrors line one wall, vintage photos and prints adorn another, and a couple of plants sit in large pots in a corner by the window. There's seating for around 30 in the front part and more up some stairs at the back. |

Kake has visited several times, most recently on a Thursday lunchtime in February 2017. I generally come on a weekday, arriving around noon to 12:30pm, and there are usually only two or three other customers in. Service is always friendly (though it should be noted that the staff recognise me now, so that might be part of it). |

An egg and bacon roll in March 2016 photo was fine, with a creamy (but not runny) yolk on the egg, decent enough bacon, and a soft roll with a gently crackly crust. |
It's a fairly typical greasy spoon, less upmarket than Golden Chef's Grill down the road. The chairs are blue plastic, the tables are covered in beige formica, and the frontage is basically all window. Large mirrors line one wall, and a couple of plants sit in large pots in a corner by the window. Menus sit on each table, and the dishes on offer are further advertised via illustrated signs and a blackboard on the wall. There's seating for 36 people (9 tables of 4) in the front part and a further 24 up some stairs at the back. |

Cooked breakfast in February 2017 photo was perfectly competent, with decent-quality baked beans and tinned tomatoes, well-browned mushrooms, a runny yolk on the egg, and nicely spiced black pudding. |
Kake visited on a Saturday lunchtime in March 2012. There were only three other customers when I arrived around 12:30pm, one of them chatting to the staff member behind the counter. |

Accessibility: A step to get in. Fairly wide aisle between the door and the counter. The toilet (and some of the seating) is up some stairs to the back. |
Set breakfast 2 (£4.50) photo consisted of egg, bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, beans, two slices of toast, and tea or coffee. The egg was nicely done, with a runny yolk. The bacon was a bit tough, and a bit greasy; the hash browns were also a bit greasy. Mushrooms and beans were fine. I was very pleased with the toast, which was made with proper wholemeal bread (I could taste and feel the bran) rather than the caramel-dyed "brown" stuff; it was also pre-buttered, which I prefer. |
