Caribbean restaurant near Finsbury Park Station. They also do takeaway and delivery.
It's small, seating only 36 people at a combination of freestanding 6-seaters and small 2-seaters lined up along a comfortably-padded banquette. Tables are ready-set with wine glasses. The lighting is dim, provided by stylised "bare bulbs" and orange-shaded lamps. One long wall has been painted with colourful beach scenes and groups of musicians, reflected in a row of mirrors opposite. A wooden shelving unit holds decorative jars of preserves.
Kake visited on a Wednesday lunchtime in September 2016. I was the only customer at 1pm, though one other came to pick up a takeaway while I was there. No music was playing. Service was friendly and helpful.
I went for a Bajan dish from the "Island Favourites" section of the menu: cou cou and stewed fish (£14) photo. The fish was firm-fleshed and very competently cooked, and the sauce had a really interesting flavour. The cou cou was interesting too, made from cornmeal and shredded okra, with a subtle flavour of coconut. The portions of both fish and cou cou were generous enough that I couldn't finish it all.
Kake's verdict: The menu here is much more varied than most other Caribbean restaurants I've been to, and I'm keen to come back and try more.
Accessibility: A step to get in, two more steps to the seating, and two more steps (and narrow access) to the toilets.
