Chinese restaurant in Wapping offering Peking and Cantonese cuisine. As the name suggests, the restaurant has a river view, being situated in a converted warehouse on the north bank of the Thames, in Wapping. It's quite big - seats 200 according to its website - and has a terrace overlooking the river. It's been there since 1990, according to Port Cities.

They offer delivery within a 2 mile radius, and you can order online from Hungry House - if you want to pay by card then you need to mention this in the comments box and they'll bring a chip and pin terminal; we've confirmed that this works! There's a £2 delivery charge if your order comes to less than £30.

Kake tried out the delivery option in February 2008.

Dragon and phoenix rolls (£8) turned out to be chicken and king prawns, sandwiched together, battered, and deep-fried. They weren't very flavourful and the texture wasn't really to my taste (though it might be better if ordered in the restaurant and eaten immediately, rather than boxed up and delivered). They came with a tub of salad cream for dipping. Wouldn't order this again.

Pei pa beancurd (£7) wasn't bad; mashed tofu croquettes braised in a mild sauce with carrots, Chinese cabbage, and Chinese mushrooms. Very mild flavour though. French beans (£4.50) were good and crisp but not very exciting; one portion would be enough for at least three people unless you really like beans. Steamed rice (£2.20) did the job but was nothing special.

Kake's verdict: Need to give this place another go, since there were other dishes on the menu that looked more exciting. My current thinking is that it seems a little on the expensive side; a fairly simple meal for one ended up costing £23.70 including the delivery charge.

Comment added by Kake: 19 Feb 2008: eel satay we had tonight wasn't bad - but would have been very good had it not arrived stone cold. Mini spring rolls also arrived cold.

Comment added by Kake: Bob's hot and sour soup had a decent amount of chilli heat, including fresh chillies. His crispy beef was rather tough and chewy though. My chicken and aubergine hotpot only had about two pieces of aubergine in; lots of lemongrass (the predominant flavour).
