An area south of the River Thames which is also sometimes known as "Southwark" (though that name is perhaps better applied to the local administrative body covering this area, the London Borough of Southwark).
The Borough stretches from around Waterloo Station eastwards past Southwark Station to London Bridge Station, and south of the River Thames (along which is Bankside) as far as Elephant & Castle.
