A reasonable local pub not far from Euston Station, with plentiful hanging baskets adding colour during the summer.
It's certainly not the flashiest pub in the area, but that makes it all the more welcoming when other nearby pubs are packed (as on a recent Friday evening visit by Ewan, when both the Doric Arch and Bree Louise were rammed). Traditional fittings predominate inside, with a carpeted floor, and comfy banquettes along both walls opposite the bar. There are tables available outside as well.
There are two handpulls for ale, with Courage Best (£2.70) available on a November 2009 visit and Spitfire off. The usual range of lagers is also available on draught. The bar staff are very friendly, though, and the environment is pleasant throughout the evening.
Food is served Monday to Saturday noon-6pm, from a simple pub menu photo of menu in November 2009 which hasn't changed in years but covers all the usuals: breakfast, burgers, fish & chips, sausages (also available as a vegetarian option), pies, lasagne, all at around £5-6. Ewan's sausages, chips & beans (£6) photo were perfectly fine. However, the smell from the fat fryers in the open kitchen to the rear of the bar tends to permeate the room.
There's an internet-enabled jukebox, so a good range of music can usually be heard playing (and quite loudly at that).
There's a bookable upstairs function room available, which can cater for up to 100 people according to the website.
