Pub in Bethnal Green.

It's long and narrow, with very little natural light penetrating to the interior; dim lighting and dark-painted wood panelling only add to the gloom. Seating here is a mix of banquettes and low stools, the floor is dark-varnished wood, and vintage oil portraits of various anonymous people hang on the walls.

Further back beyond the bar, it gets even narrower before unexpectedly opening out onto a small courtyard patio, part-covered but with enough clear sky to be quite well lit.

Kake visited on a Thursday afternoon in September 2017. I was the only customer when I arrived around 1:30pm, and this remained the case throughout my visit. Retro music was playing, not too loud.

Only one of the four handpumps was on, offering Purity Bunny Hop (£2.05/half).

Accessibility: A very steep ramp to get in; more of a large smoothed-over step, and not all that easy to get up even on foot. Toilets are up a flight of stairs with a sturdy handrail on each side.
