Note: This venue has had a shift in ownership and change of name. The new details can be found here. What follows is the original write-up.

Bar, café, crêperie and arts hub in Brixton Village Market.

The venue is brightly and cheerfully decorated,
with space for around twenty people inside and seating for another twenty outside, in the covered arcade avenue. It operates as a café and crêperie during the day and as a licensed bar and "art space" on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

The menu includes both savoury and sweet crêpes and galettes, salads, coffees, teas, juices and soft drinks. The price of most pancakes falls between £3.00 and £5.50 and you can add extra fillings of your choice for 50p or 70p each. There are some basic sweet crêpes (e.g. with lemon and honey) for £2
to £3. With all crêpes and galettes there is a choice of plain wheat or buckwheat flour. Bottles of water and glass beakers are set out on all tables and are not included in the bill, which is a nice touch.

The buckwheat galettes are egg-free and gluten-free. Dairy-free galettes are available on request. None of the standard fillings are vegan friendly but vegans are welcome to create their own fillings from a range of ingredients (as are any customers).

On a March 2011 visit, itsbruce and Jen started by sharing a Picante buckwheat galette (minced beef, red and green peppers, jalapeños and cheese at £4.80) photo, which they seasoned lightly with the café's home-made chilli sauce. The pancake itself was light and had a good texture, while the filling was moist and well flavoured; as a whole it hung together well and was not at all soggy. We were impressed enough with it to try a sweet pancake. Most of those on the menu are chocolate based and offer a choice of dark, milk or white chocolate; we chose a dark chocolate Rum & Passas crêpe (rum-soaked raisins and chocolate at £4.40) photo, which was delicious. The final bill, with two coffees, a tea and a fresh orange juice, was £17.40 (service not included).

On a subsequent visit, itsbruce tried the home-made ginger beer (£2.40), made locally to an old Jamaican recipe, and served hot or cold (he chose hot photo); it was
very good, but is possibly more suited to drinking between courses than as an accompaniment to food.

itsbruce's verdict: This is a fun place with an interesting menu. Jen and I would happily go back.

Accessibility: There is a step up to the door which opens onto a narrow space immediately in front of the bar. The interior is quite crowded.
