Totally-vegetarian Chinese restaurant a minute or so's walk from Edgware Station. They do takeaway too, and will deliver within a three-mile radius. Note that they're not licensed; not sure whether you can BYOB.

Note: Mr Man has now been taken over by the Loving Hut chain. It is still totally vegetarian, and still does Chinese food. We haven't visited since the takeover, so our comments below may be out of date; in particular, the dim sum selection is now much more extensive.

Kake and Katie visited on a Thursday evening in September 2008. There were a few other customers in, but plenty of free tables. We decided to start with soup and then try the dim sum; since they only have four dim sum options we also ordered some crispy tofu with salt and peppercorns from the starter menu.

Kake's spinach soup (£2.80) was pretty tasty; neither gloopy nor slimy, and with a good fresh spinach flavour. Katie seemed pleased with her hot and sour soup (£2.80) too. The salt-and-pepper tofu (£3.80) photo wasn't bad, with a nice creamy interior, though it might have been a little better had the pieces been a bit bigger.

Moving on to the dim sum, the steamed vegetable dumplings and the spicy vegetable dumplings (both £3 for three pieces) were merely OK according to Kake (the translucent wrappers tore very easily), though Katie thought the spicy versions were her favourites of everything we tried. Deep-fried yam paste croquettes (£3 for three croquettes) weren't bad either. Kake's favourites, though, were the deep-fried beancurd rolls (£3) - while I'd hesitate to recommend the other dim sum to a non-vegetarian who could eat dim sum anywhere, these were well up to the standard I'm used to (and I've eaten a lot of dim sum).

Tea (choice of jasmine tea or green tea) was £1/head. It was fine, and the staff topped up our teapot as needed.

They also offer an all-you-can-eat buffet at lunchtimes; as of September 2008 this costs £4.90 Monday to Saturday and £5.90 on Sundays (price includes one soft drink).

Accessibility: One step to get in; it's all on one level thereafter, though the corridor to the toilets might be a little narrow for a wheelchair.
